STATE GEOGRAPHY BEE FINALIST

Bill Moody of Auburn, a Lee-Scott Academy sixth grader and winner of  LSA's Geography Bee, was a Top 10 finalist in the Alabama State Geography Bee held at Jacksonville State University April 5.  Bill was one of 100 fourth through eighth graders statewide to participate in the Bee after winning their school bees and taking a qualifying test.  He made the afternoon finals session after participating in preliminary rounds that morning.  He tied sixth place in that final round.  The winner, William White, an eighth grader from Muscle Shoals Middle School will represent Alabama in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.


Academic Team Finalists Chosen


Judges from across the state have named 70 finalist for the 14th Annual Birmingham Post-Herald All-State Academic Team.  The top 10 students from each region were selected by panels of judges from education-related associations across the state.  Judging was based primarily on academics, leadership qualities, and extracurricular activities.

Nathan Sumrall
Lee-Scott Academy

Nathan Sumrall, a student at Lee-Scott Academy, has been named a National Merit finalist.  Nathan was also an AISA All-Star in football and was named to the All-Tournament team at the AISA Baseball Championships in 2002.
 


Adam Eason
Lee-Scott Academy

Adam Eason, a student at Lee-Scott Academy, received Commendation by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
 



Steve Francis Snow
Patrician Academy

Steve Francis Snow, a student at Patrician Academy is a finalist in the 2003 Alabama Science Talent Search and Gorgas Scholarship Program. 


Lindsey Sherrill
Escambia Academy

Lindsey Sherrill, a senior at Escambia Academy achieved a perfect score of 800 on the SAT II:   Writing Subject Test
taken in December 2002.  Lindsey is undecided on a college as of yet, but is sure about a major - JOURNALISM.
Congratulations to Lindsey and best of luck with her future plans. 
(Additionally, Lindsey scored 770 on the Literature Subject Test.)


Micah Whitson
Cornerstone Christian School

Micah Whitson, a senior at Cornerstone Christian School, has been named as a 2003 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist,
one of only 16,000 students across the nation to be so recognized.  As a Semifinalist, he is competing
for one of 8,000 Merit Scholarships to be awarded this year.

At Cornerstone, Micah participates in football, basketball, and baseball.  In addition, he is also
a member of the Scholars' Bowl and Math Competition Teams.  Also, he represented Cornerstone in the
2001 Model Senate.  Micah is a member of the Beta Club, the Nation Honor Society, and is the valedictorian of his class.

After graduating, Micah will be attending Auburn University on an academic scholarship. 
He plans to pursue a degree in medicine.
