CONGRATULATIONS!
Danielle Hagler, Tuscaloosa Academy
8th grader, recently won 1st place in the State Spelling Bee competition sponsored by the Birmingham Post-Herald.

GLENWOOD ATTENDS MOBILE REGIONAL SCIENCE FAIR:
Seven Glenwood students recently attend the Mobile Regional International Science and Engineering Fair held at the University of South Alabama on March 22-24, 2001.  All seven students came home with awards, and will be attending the Alabama State International Science and Engineering Fair to be held at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on April 5-7.  The seven students, their projects, and what they won in Mobile are as follows.

Kimberlee Copeland -
"How Effective Are Various Items in Protecting Against Ultraviolet Radiation?" - 2nd Place in Medicine and Health; Medical Society of Mobile County Award; Society for In Vitro Biology Award; U.S. Department of Health Award.

Josh Fryer -
"Optical Range Finders - Their Relationship to Trigonometry and Geometry" - 1st place in Engineering U.S. Army Award; U.S. Navy Award.

Chricat Suchy - "The Auto Visor" - 2nd place in Engineering; U.S. Navy Award

Chase Gullatte -
" How Safe is our Drinking Water? Which Source of Water is Safest to Drink: Bottled Water, Well Water, or Tap Water?" - Alabama Association of School Nurses Award.

Beth Lisle -
"Which Moods Do High School Students Associate with Certain Colors?" - 1st place in Social Science and Behavior.

Jennifer Locke - "Teens, Divorce, and Peer Pressure" - 2nd place in Social Science and Behavior.

Daniel Cobb - "What Do Bees Like?" - 1st Place in Zoology. 

CHORAL WEEKEND WAS GREAT FOR THE AISA:
AISA Choral students represented the Association and the participating schools well on Friday and Saturday.  The Honor Chorus, conducted by Mr. David Ayers, Choral Director at Alabama Southern Community College, performed very difficult music to perfection!  Honored as most outstanding choral student were:  Ben Stewart of Morgan Academy (Male Student) and Fran Balkcom of The Lakeside School (Female Student).  In the Festival, participating choirs received the following overall ratings.  (I = Superior; II = Excellent; III = Good):

STATE ACCOUNTING COMPETITION: (April 19, 2001)
The State Accounting Contest will be hosted by Fort Dale Academy on Thursday, April 19, 2001.  Mrs. Pat Skipper, Accounting and Technology Teacher at Fort Dale Academy, is coordinating this event once again for AISA.  The Association appreciates the support of Mrs. Skipper and David Brantley, Fort Dale Headmaster, in hosting this great competition.  Participation schools should arrive at Fort Dale by 9:30 a.m. for registration, etc., so that the contest can begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

ATTENTION ELEMENTARY CHOIR DIRECTORS AND HEADMASTERS:
Please be reminded that the Elementary Choral Festival will be hosted by Hooper Academy this year on Friday, April 20.  Send your registration form to Mr. Jim Christensen, Choral Director, Hooper Academy.  (Choral fees are to be sent to Mrs. Linda Faust at the AISA office.)

Information is enclosed concerning SGA elections for 2001-2002; Applications for SGA Leadership Scholarships; Information concerning Teachers of the Year nomination;  criteria for Judging SGA Scrapbooks; and criteria for Judging Best SGA. Deadlines follow:

BASEBALL
Attention Baseball Coaches:
The AISA will use the Paul's official AISA baseball in the State Tournament.

STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT:
The tournament will be held at Bloch Park, Selma, AL, on May 9-12, 2001.  Play starts at 10:00 a.m. (A) on Wednesday; 10:00 a.m. (AAA) on Thursday; 9:00 a.m. (AA) on Friday; and 11:00 a.m. (AAA) on Saturday.  Admission is $5.00 for the entire day.

PUBLICITY:
Attention Baseball and Softball Coaches - Call your game results into the Montgomery Advertiser at 1-800-488-3579, The Birmingham News at 1-800-283-4024, and/or your local media. Try to get scores on the wire service.

SOFTBALL
ATTENTION SOFTBALL COACHES:
The State Tournament is on May 4-5, 2001.  Correct our mistake on the bracket sheet.

STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT:
Support your team.  Attend the State Softball Tournament at Lagoon Park, Montgomery, AL.  May 4-5, 2001.  Play starts at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.  Admission is $5.00 for the entire day.

TIE BREAKER:

While using the tie-breaker, each half-inning begins by placing a runner on second base.  That runner is the player in the batting order who precedes the lead-off batter in that inning.  Then the game proceeds a full inning or until a winner is determined in that inning.  Read page 74 in your Softball Rules Book.

VOLLEYBALL
ATTENTION VOLLEYBALL COACHES AND AD's:
There will be a State Volleyball Schedule meeting for the 2001 season in the AISA office on April 19 at 10:00 a.m. due to many new teams coming in.  Someone needs to be presents from your school at the meeting.

ATTENTION AD's:
If your school did not play volleyball last year, but your school plans to play next year call the AISA office.  We need to put you in an area where you can schedule your games.

GOLF

ATTENTION AD'S AND GOLF COACHES:
All day golf tournaments on a weekly basis cannot be allowed.  Please try to schedule all interscholastic competition after school.

TRACK

Morgan Academy will be hosting track meets on the following dates:  April 9 and April 16.  Entry fee is $30.00 per school per meet.  Call Coach Robinson for specific information at (334) 875-9466.  A Scratch Meeting is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. prior to each event.  The field events will start at 1:00 p.m.
