ACCREDITATION
WORKSHOP:
Attention: Headmasters, Administrators, and Curriculum Coordinators.
An Accreditation Workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2000,
10:00-2:00, in the Stallworth Dining Room in Russell Hall. Lunch will be
provided. This workshop will cover the Accreditation Handbook, the role of
the visiting team, and issues pertaining to accreditation visits. If you
desire to serve on a visiting team or are scheduled for an accreditation visit
this year need to attend.
Please bring your AISA Accreditation Handbook.
ATTENTION HEADMASTERS:
I. Please list five (5) people who have provided extraordinary
leadership and/or effort, which led to the positive development of your school
(since its beginning.)
II. Please list at least five (5) of your most prominent alumni and their achievements and/or accomplishments.
The AISA Hall of Fame Committee is requesting this information. If available, please furnish addresses and phone numbers. Please be assured that this information will be kept in total confidence.

COUNCIL MEETING WILL BE HELD IN THE AISA OFFICE ON SEPTEMBER 6, AT 10:00 A.M.

ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATORS FOR DISTRICT COMPETITION:
We need to receive information concerning district academic competition,
leadership, and district competition sites, as soon as possible. Forms were
provided to you at the annual meeting.
ORATORICAL CONTESTS:
District Contests are scheduled for November 2, and the State contest will be
held on November 9. This year's topic is: "The Impact of TECHNOLOGY on The
American Family." We anticipate great participation.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY UPDATE:
"Continuing the Tradition of Excellence in the New Millennium"
is the theme selected by the Professional Development Day Planning Committee for
this year's conference on Monday, October 2, 2000. The Committee and Teacher
Leaders met recently under the leadership of Mrs. Barbara Lindsey, Chairperson,
to finalize plans for the "Big Day" on October 2. Dr. Wanda Bigham,
President of Huntingdon College, will give the keynote address. Planning
Committee will meet on September 7, at 10:00 a.m. in the Large Private Dining
Hall, Huntingdon College. Teacher leaders are asked to meet with the
committee at 11:00 a.m. Registration materials will be sent to all schools
next week. Please return registration form by September 7.
REMINDER:
The Professional Development Day Registration Form was due in the AISA
Office by Thursday, September 7. Please be sure to register
by SESSION NUMBER. Also, it will be helpful if participants' names and
choices of sessions are typed or printed clearly to facilitate our making name
tags. Thanks!

REMINDER TO
SCHOOLS VISITED FOR AISA ACCREDITATION IN 1999-2000:
Some schools that were visited for accreditation in 1999-2000 have
provided documentation to clear Priorities and written responses to the
Recommendations of the Visting Committee; however, some schools have not yet
provided responses and documentation. Priorities must be cleared and
responses to Recommendations must be provided by August 31, 2000.
ALABAMA READING
ASSOCIATION ALABAMA READING ASSOCIATION:
The Alabama Reading Association will host its 32nd Annual Fall
Conference on October 12-13, 2000. The Von Braun Center and the Hilton Hotel in
Huntsville will be the sites for the conference this year. In keeping with the
conference theme, "Lift Off to Literacy," emphasis will be placed in
strands of interest, which will revolve around reading and writing. The primary
goal of the Alabama Reading Association is to promote literacy for children and
adults in Alabama.

With the opening of school upon us, headmasters are reminded that organized
athletic practice must occur during the school day. The six hours of
"pure instruction" must be maintained at all AISA schools every day.

The Athletic Committee recommends that all schools submit a list of
pass bearers to the home school for athletic events.
ATTENTION:
HELP! Name the Football Championship CONTEST. We need an
"eye-catching" name for our Football Championship - Triple-Header to
be held at Troy State University on November 17, 2000. Fax or E-mail suggestions
to the AISA office by August 25, 2000. The winning entry will receive four (4)
tickets to the game.
ATHLETIC DIRECTORS:

FOOTBALL DROP GAME:
Coach, if you have a ten (10) game schedule, then you must designate one (1)
non-region game as a drop game. Reference rule V-C-1, page 26 of your
current AISA Athletic Handbook. Your response must be in writing to the
AISA office by August 23, 2000. Call if you have questions.

FOOTBALL/VOLLEYBALL ELIGIBILITY:
Varsity football and volleyball eligibility lists are due in the AISA office by
August 21, 2000. A $100.00 fine will be levied on schools not meeting this
deadline.
The AISA office must be notified immediately in writing by the receiving
school of any student - athlete transferring in from a member school. (Item 10,
Letter e, page 12 Athletic Handbook).
ATTENTION SOFTBALL COACHES:
The AISA will use the yellow softball with high seams for the next two
years.
