2001-2002 STUDENT INSURANCE:
The deadline for submitting the AISA Base Plan Participation Form for
student insurance was July 5. The following schools will be covered
effective July 15, 2001:

ATTENTION HEADMASTERS: WANTED! - BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS
A Blue Ribbon school exemplifies excellence in teaching, student performance,
school life, and school and community interaction. A Blue Ribbon Award will be given by the AISA to
schools that meet certain criteria. Applications will only be
accepted through the 1st semester for 2001-2002 school year.
ACADEMIC NOTES
ATTENTION:
COUNCIL MEETING WILL BE HELD IN THE AISA OFFICE ON SEPTEMBER 5 AT 10:00 A.M.
SGA STATE OFFICERS AND DISTRICT REPS:
There will be a SGA planning meeting for the September SGA workshop on
Thursday, August 30, 10:00 a.m., AISA Office
at Huntingdon College, Massey Hall, 3rd floor.
ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATORS FOR DISTRICT COMPETITION:
We need to receive information concerning district academic competition,
leadership, and district competition sites, as soon as possible. Forms
were provided to you at the annual meeting. Nine Districts are the same as
last year.
REMINDER TO SCHOOLS VISITED FOR AISA ACCREDITATION IN 2000-2001:
Some schools that were visited for accreditation in 2000-2001 have provided
documentation to clear Priorities and written responses to the Recommendations
of the Visiting Committee; however, many schools have not yet provided responses
and documentation. Priorities must be cleared and responses to
Recommendations must be provided by August 31, 2001.
School Directory Information is due in the AISA office as soon as your school opens.
2000-2001 CALENDARS ARE REQUESTED:
Please supply the AISA office with a copy of your school calendar as soon as
it is completed. (Due August 23.) Thanks for those that have already been
sent to us!
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY UPDATE:
"Raising the Bar of Academic Performance" is the theme selected by
the Professional Development Day Planning Committee for this year's conference
on Monday, October 1, 2001. The Committee had an excellent meeting
recently under the leadership of Mr. David Weir, Chairperson. Dr. John Ed
Mathison, Pastor of Frazer, will give the keynote address. Planning
Committee will meet on September 6, at 10:00 a.m. in the Large Private Dining
Hall, Huntingdon College.
ORATORICAL CONTESTS:
District contests are scheduled for November 1, and the state contest on
November 8. This year's topic is: " The Influence of the
ENTERTAINMENT Industry on today's society." We anticipate great
participation.

ATTENTION
ATHLETIC COMMITTEE:
The
Athletic Committee is scheduled to meet in the AISA office at 10:00 a.m. on
August 15, 2001.
ADMISSION PRICES:
The following are AISA maximum gate prices:
Varsity Football - $4.00/person
Below Varsity Football - $2.00/person - one game and $3.00/person - multiple
games.
Volleyball - $3.00/person
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FOR ALL AISA ATHLETES/CHEERLEADERS:
Refer to Physical Exam Form and Medical History Form in the Appendix of your
AISA Athletic Handbook.
Call the AISA office if you have questions. ATHLETES: Do
not practice or play unless you have had a Medical Exam.
BASKETBALL, BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL:
Evangel will be playing basketball, baseball, and softball in
the AISA in 2001-2002 school year. They will play in East
Area I in these
sports.
ATTENTION COACHES:
You can attend only one team camp with your players. There is no
restriction on individual camps.
ATTENTION COACHES AND AD'S:
With the opening of school upon us, headmasters are reminded that organized
athletic practice must
not occur during the school day. This six hours of "pure
instruction" must be maintained at all AISA
schools every day.
ATHLETIC AND GAME PASS REQUESTS:
Requests for passes are due at the AISA office NOW! REMINDER:
NO ATHLETIC PASSES
WILL BE ISSUED TO SCHOOLS UNTIL ALL 2000-2001 ARREARS HAVE BEEN CLEARED.
ATTENTION COACHES AND AD'S:
The Athletic Committee recommends that all schools submit a list of pass bearers
to the home
school for athletic events.
HEAD FOOTBALL COACHES:
If your Master Football Schedule dates have been changed call the AISA
office. Make sure you
have contacted your football Officials Coordinator and set all your home games
dates for varsity
and junior high games.
FOOTBALL STATS:
To participate in the AISA Football Stats, a team must submit information
weekly to the AISA
office to the attention of Don Hand. Start with the first game, and stay
current, if you want
your stats published. If you have a question, call the office.
ATTENTION AD'S:
DO NOT DRESS AN INELIGIBLE ATHLETE. Reference rule II, page 5, and
rule XIII, page 19,
in your current AISA Athletic Handbook.
EJECTION RULE:
AD's and Coaches, please review the AISA ejection rule with your players and
coaches.
Refer. Rule XIII on page 6 of the AISA Athletic Handbook.
PUBLICITY:
Attention Football Coaches - Call your game results into the Montgomery
Advertiser at 1-800-488-3579,
The Birmingham News at 1-800-283-4024, and/or your local media. Try
to get scores on the wire service.
ATTENTION AISA EMPLOYEES:
AISA member school employees may join our sports official's ranks for
football. IF interested, contact
the AISA office for specifics.
FOOTBALL DROP GAME:
Coach, if you have a ten (10) game schedule, then you must designate one (1)
non-region games as a
drop game. Reference rule V-C-1, page 26 of your current AISA Athletic
Handbook. Your response
must be in writing to the AISA office by August 22, 2001. Call if you have
questions.
FOOTBALL / VOLLEYBALL ELIGIBILITY:
Varsity football and volleyball eligibility lists are due in the AISA office by
August 20, 2001. A $100.00
fine will be levied on schools not meeting this deadline.
The AISA office must be notified immediately in writing by the receiving school
of any student-athlete
transferring in from a member school. (Item 10, Letter e, page 12 Athletic
Handbook).
ATTENTION AD'S, PLAN AHEAD:
The participation format for the following State Tournament is as follows:
Final Four Basketball Tournament
February 14 & 15 - Class A schools
February 15 & 16 - Class AAA schools
February 14 - 16 - Class AA schools
Final Four Baseball Tournament
May 8 & 9 - Class AA schools
May 9 & 10 - Class A schools
May 10 & 11 - Class AAA schools
West Regionals will be held in Selma on February 8 - 9.
East Regionals will be held at Faulkner University in Montgomery on February.
VOLLEYBALL:
Evangel will be playing volleyball this year in the
AISA. They will be in East Area 2 in Class A for 2001.
ATTENTION FOOTBALL COACHES/AD'S:
a. First day of organized varsity football practice -
July 27, 2001
b. First 5 days of practice - no contact drills.
c. Get your scrimmage and/or jamboree sanctioned.
d. Review your varsity schedule for errors.
e. Contact the AISA office if any changes are made in your varsity
schedule.
FOOTBALL COACHES:
Mail your drop-game to the AISA office before your first regular season
game. If you have an open date, Cottage Hill or Evangel, or a school on
your schedule that is not an AISA member, then this will be your drop
game. (Page 26, Athletic Handbook)
AISA FOOTBALL OFFICIALS:
Attention AISA employees, we need football officials. You are eligible
to work as an AISA game official. Call the AISA office for more
information.
