STATE DRAMA FESTIVAL:
Attention:  Drama Sponsors

The STATE DRAMA FESTIVAL will be held on JANUARY 24, 2003, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at FAULKNER UNIVERSITY.  The AISA office must receive the State entry form at least ten days prior to January 24th (by January 14th).  Drama teachers, please read rules carefully.  There are changes in the guidelines.  There will be one competition for grades 7-12 combined.  There is not a separate junior high and senior competition!

STATE TECHNOLOGY FAIR:
The State Technology Fair will be held on March 19, 2003 at Morgan Academy in Selma, Alabama.  Registration Forms are due to Mrs. Betty Carol Swindle at Morgan Academy no later than Monday, January 27, 2003.

PROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL REPORTS:
All responses to professional personnel deficiencies are due in the AISA office by February 3, 2003.  Please send documentation with your response.  Documentation includes teacher's certificates, transcripts, etc.  Please refer to the AISA Accreditation Manual for personnel standards. 

COMPENDIUM OF INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:
Headmasters: It is time to ensure teachers have incorporated all objectives that are tested on Stanford 9 into  their Courses of Study and into their lesson plans.  Please be sure that the two copies of the Compendium of Instructional Objectives for Stanford 9 have been located at your school, and that teachers are using them in planning for teaching. Skills and objectives tested at a given grade level need to be introduced the year before testing, and taught for mastery (reviewed) the year of testing (before April).   ACADEMIC DISTRICT COMPETITION - DATES / HOSTS

COACHES:
Coaches boxes are mandatory in all AISA gyms.  See Basketball Rules Book, page 13, section 13. 

LAST GAME POLICY -
AISA Athletic Handbook, page 21 XV - Schools having student-athletes ejected for conduct
violations during their last regular season game, and/or last play-off game in any sport will fined $200.00 per ejection

EJECTION RULE:
AD's and Coaches, please review the AISA ejection rule with your players and coaches. Refer to Rule XII on page 6 of the AISA Athletic Handbook

TTENTION ATHLETIC DIRECTORS AND BASKETBALL COACHES:
Each school needs to get its basketball schedule to the appropriate coordinator and to the AISA Office.

THE OFFICIAL BASKETBALL:

The Nike 2000 NFHS Touch Basketball is the adopted basketball that will be used for the state tournament and the All-Star game.  Local schools can determine the use of any basketball for their home games as long as it meets the National Federation Rules.

BASKETBALL PRACTICE AND GAMES:
See Rules I-E on page 41 concerning scheduling games.

Pee-Wee play - finish by 3:50 p.m.

Junior High girls - start at 4:00 p.m. - allow 4 minutes only for halftime - If 2nd half starts after the half hour then limit 3rd and 4th quarters to 5 minutes each. 

Junior High Boys - start at as close as you can at 5:00 - allow 4 minutes only for half time.  Junior High Boys will  follow the same format as the Junior High girls. 

If starting on the hour is a problem, cut warm-ups to a maximum of eight (8) minutes.  Note:  Policy applies to regulation play only, if overtime occurs play it out. 

ATTENTION JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL COACHES:

If you are interested in the State Junior High Invitational tournaments on January 25, 2003 at Hooper and Wilcox Academy, then you must fax your boys record to Hooper Academy at 334-288-9171 by noon Friday, January 17  or your girls record to Wilcox Academy at 334-683-2107 by noon Friday, January 17, 2003. 

Marion Academy is hosting a junior high basketball tournament on Saturday, January 25, 2003 for boys and girls.  We need two more teams.  If you are interested, please call Myla Walworth at 334-683-8204.

STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT:
The State Wrestling Tournament will be held at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday, February 1, 2003.  Admission is $5.00.  The State Wrestling Tournament Seed Meeting will be held in the AISA office at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2003.  All wrestling coaches must be present.  Hooper Academy and Macon-East Montgomery Academy are the host schools. 

GOLF:
Kingwood Christian will be having a golf team this year.  Home matches will be played at the new Timberline golf course in Calera, AL.   Anyone interested in playing matches needs to call Jerry Stearns, the Athletic Director at Kingwood.  I can be reached at the school, 205-663-6526.

TRACK:

Tuscaloosa Academy
will host the Blue and Gold Track Invitational Meet to be held at the Stillman College Athletic Complex in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on March 14,
2003.  The format will follow A.I.S.A. guidelines and there will be two (2) separate divisions competing.  1A-2A boys and Girls and 3A Boys and Girls.   The Track Meet will start at 10:00 a.m. with a Coaches' Meeting preceding it at 9:30 a.m.  Concession's will be available for the teams and general public and a hospitality room will be provided for all Coaches and Meet Officials.  Entry deadline is March 1, 2003.  The entry fee per school is $30.00.  Please make your check payable to:
