2002-2003 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

CROSS COUNTRY:
Escambia Academy
will be hosting an invitational cross country championship meet at Municipal Park in Mobile on Saturday,
November 2, 2002, with the girls running at 10:00 a.m. and the boys immediately thereafter.  The meet will be run under the National
High School standards.  The contact person will be Bert Rice at 251-294-0175.  Escambia, Cottage Hill, Faith, Tuscaloosa and Mobile
Christian will be participating so-far in this meet.  If you are interested, call Bert Rice ASAP.

ATTENTION ATHLETIC COMMITTEE:

The Athletic Committee is scheduled to meet in the AISA office at 10:00 a.m. on July 17, 2002.

The AISA has officially adopted the following balls for play in:

FOOTBALL:
TRIPLEHEADER CHAMPIONSHIPS AND ALL-STAR COMPETITION THROUGH 2003. NIKE 3005 NFHS.

FOOTBALL RULES CLINIC:
The AISA Football Rules Clinic will be held on July 19, 2002, at the Coaches Meeting.  Attendance at an AISA sponsored
Rules Clinic is required.  This Clinic will be given by Mr. George Frost of the Montgomery Officials Association. 


REQUIRED COACHES' MEETING:
AISA Required Coaches' Meeting is scheduled for July 18 and 19, 2002.  This meeting will be held at the Governors House Hotel on East South Boulevard in Montgomery, Alabama.  Make your plans to attend.  The Governors House Hotel has given the AISA Coaches a special buy this year.  Make reservations by July 3, 2002 for $60.00 a room.    After this date room rates will be $72.00 a room.  Call 1-800-334-8459 or 288-2800 and ask for the AISA rate.  A $100.00 fine will be assessed to schools for failure to have a representative present on July 19.  The golf scramble will be at Montgomery National golf Club (Oak Hills).  Agenda and registration information will follow under separate cover.   

The the meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Governors House Hotel on Friday. T
he fun begins at 1:30 p.m. with a golf scramble, coordinated by Don Hand. All are encouraged to participate in the golf tournament. A $10.00 fee will cover green fees and cart rental for those planning to play golf. The golf scramble will be played at the Montgomery National Golf Club located a short distance south of Montgomery.

The Coaches Meeting is sponsored, in part, by Hibbett Team Sales. The Coaches Golf Tournament is sponsored, in part, by HealthSouth. The entire AISA Family says "Thank You" to Hibbett and HealthSouth.

The summer AISA coaches clinic and rules meeting on July 18th and 19th.  Registration will be at 1:30 p.m.  Our clinic will begin at 2 p.m. with
Don Dunn and Jim Perry from Auburn University.

Our last session will begin at 4:30 p.m. with Stan Eggan and Mark Tommerbahl from the University of Alabama.  We will conclude by 7:30 p.m.

Defensive play, offensive techniques/TE, and special teams/kicking will be our focus this year.

ATTENTION ATHLETIC DIRECTORS AND COACHES:
An accredited correspondence course may be accepted by a school but must be completed and the final 
grade recorded by August 15.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:
Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 must have passed the previous academic year and have been promoted to the next grade.
Tenth through twelfth grade students must have passed six (6) new Carnegie units during the previous academic year to be eligible for the first semester.  Note:  A minimum of four (4) core curriculum credits must be included in this requirement.  Read Page 12, 13, and 14 in your AISA Athletic Handbook for more details.

REQUIRED COACHES MEETING (JULY 18-19, 2002):
Agenda and registration information will follow.  July 19: all schools are required to have a representative at this meeting.

AISA has adopted the Diamond Baseball for the 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Baseball Season. 
The Diamond D1 Baseball will be used in our State AISA Playoffs.
