ATTENTION HEADMASTERS:
The AISA Headmasters will meet in the chapel on the Huntingdon College Campus at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2001
The meeting will convene at 10:00 a.m. Please try and arrange your schedule for attendance at this meeting.
The meeting agenda will focus on dollar saving programs for AISA schools, accreditation, and other items of interest.

ATTENTION ACCREDITATION COMMITTEE:
The AISA Accreditation Committee will meet for lunch in the Huntingdon College cafeteria at 12:00 noon on October 25, 2001.  
Please try and arrange your schedule for attendance.

HALL OF FAME:
Hall of Fame nominations must be into the AISA office by January 1, 2002.

ALABAMA COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF MATH CONFERENCE

Patsy Kanter is a teacher of 30 years and author of Every Day CountsŪ Calendar Math, Partner Games, Practice  Counts K-6, and Summer Success: Math K-8.  Patsy is a frequent speaker at NCTM conventions and Director of PFK Consultants, a cadre of talented math teachers who work with districts and individual schools throughout the country to improve math instruction.

ORATORICAL CONTESTS:
District contests are scheduled for November 1, and the state contest on November 8 at 10:00 a.m..  This year's topic is: "The Influence of the ENTERTAINMENT Industry on Today's Society."  We anticipate great participation.  The state contest will be held in Flowers Chapel on the Huntingdon College campus.  9:30 a.m.  Registration.  

IMPORTANT!
Schools that are hosting District Oratorical Contests are requested to FAX the names of winners to the AISA office (334-263-9195), as soon as the district competition is completed.  (See the Academic Handbook).  Contestants, their families, teachers, and administrators are invited.  Appropriate Attire:  "Sunday clothes."

ATTENTION ATHLETIC COMMITTEE:
The Athletic Committee is scheduled to meet in the Delchamp's Center at 9:30 a.m. on October 27, 2001 to participate in setting the Football Playoffs.

ALL-STAR SELECTION COMMITTEE:
The All Star Football player Selection Committee will meet in the AISA office at 10:00 a.m. on November
7, 2001.  Read pages 31-32 in the AISA Athletic Handbook to determine committee membership.

ATTENTION COACHES:
The AISA will use the Nike inflated football and basketball in all AISA sponsored  championship games.  
The Nike football will be used in the Triple-Header at Troy State University this year.  The Nike basketball 
will be used for championship basketball games at Wallace Junior College, Faulkner University, and 
Huntingdon College 

EJECTION RULE:
AD's and Coaches, please review the AISA ejection rule with your players and coaches.  
Refer. Rule XIII on page 6 of the AISA Athletic Handbook.

FOOTBALL

ATTENTION AD'S, FOOTBALL PLAY-OFF TICKET FORMAT (FIRST ROUND / SEMI-FINALS):
The AISA will provide printed tickets for the visiting team.
The visiting team may request tickets in multiples of 100.
The visiting team will pay the AISA office $50.00 per 100 tickets requested.
Each Playoff team is required to buy 100 tickets.
The visiting team will keep all monies earned from their ticket sale.
The visiting team will receive no money from the gate.
Home team will be furnished rolls of tickets to be sold at the game.  All tickets can be picked up on October 27.

FOOTBALL COACH OF THE YEAR:
Attention Football Coaches, please complete the form at the end of this NEWSLETTER and return to the AISA office by
November 19, 2001.  Note:  You must vote for a coach in your classification only.

FOOTBALL PLAY-OFF MEETING SCHEDULED:
Play-off meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 27, 2001,in the  Delchamp's Center Executive Conference Room at 
Huntingdon College. The 2A meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. with 3A following and 1A meeting last.  3A and 1A need to 
be here by 9:45 a.m
. Attendance is required for all teams entering the play-offs.  A $100.00 fine will be assessed 
to any required school not in attendance
.  Refer to Rule VI-E, page 30, of your AISA Athletic Handbook.  Coaches be 
sure you bring team picture, roster, cheerleader picture, coaches and administration names to be printed in program.

ALL-STAR FOOTBALL PLAYERS:
Coaches, please read pages 31-32 in the AISA Athletic Handbook.  Get your All-Star nomination(s) into the AISA office by November 2, 2001.  Please use a copy of the All-Star Football Nomination form located in the appendix of the Athletic Handbook to make your nominations.

ATTENTION FOOTBALL COACHES:
Call 1-800-428-6633 after the game on Friday nights - report scores - state wide publicity.  Scores will be 
posted on The Spy's Web site.  Thanks - promote your program.

PUBLICITY:
Attention Football Coaches - Call your game results into the Montgomery Advertiser at 1-800-488-3579, 
The Birmingham News at 1-800-283-4024, and/or  your local media.  Try to get scores on the wire service.

BASKETBALL

BASKETBALL GATE PRICES:
AISA maximum charges for admission to AISA basketball games are:

Varsity - $4.00 Adults / $2.00 Students
Below Varsity - $2.00 Adults / $2.00 Students
Varsity Tournaments - $4.00 Adults / $2.00 Students
Jr. High Tournaments - $3.00 Adults / $2.00 Students

BASKETBALL COACHES:
Send your basketball schedule to the AISA office by November 16, 2001.

THE OFFICIAL BASKETBALL:
The Nike 2000 NFHS Touch is the adopted basketball that will be used for the state tournament and the All-Star game.  Local schools can determine the use of any basketball for their home games as long as it meets the National Federation Rules.

BASKETBALL PRACTICE AND GAMES:
See Rules I-E on page 40 of the AISA Athletic Handbook concerning scheduling games.

ATTENTION BASKETBALL COACHES AND AD'S:
AISA Policy - The following procedure will be followed by all AISA schools when four or more basketball games are scheduled on a game day/night:

Pee Wee play - finish by 3:50 p.m.

Junior High girls - start at 4:00 p.m. - allow 4 minutes only for halftime - If 2nd half starts after the half hour then limit 3rd and 4th quarters to 5 minutes each.

Junior High boys - start at 5:00 p.m. - allow 4 minutes only for halftime - If 2nd half starts after the half hour then limit 3rd and 4th quarters to 5 minutes each.

Varsity girls - start at 6:00 p.m. - allow 4 minutes only for halftime - If 2nd half starts after the half hour then limit 3rd and 4th quarters to 5 minutes each.

If starting on the hour is a problem, cut warm-ups to a maximum of eight (8) minutes.  
Note: Policy applies to regulation play only, if overtime occurs play it out
.

WRESTLING

ATTENTION WRESTLING COACHES:
All wrestling coaches should plan to attend the scheduling meeting on October 22, 2001 in the AISA office at 10:00 a.m.  Be prepared to build your regular season and tournament schedule.  This year the State Tournament will be held at Marion Military Institute on January 26, 2002.

WRESTLING GATE PRICES:
Maximum - $3.00 Adults / $2.00 Students
Tournaments - $4.00 Adults / $2.00 Students

                           Re: State Wrestling Tournament

                           All coaches attending the meeting on 10-27-98 approved the 
                          following:

                           1. The National Federation Rule Book will be followed in its
                            entirety.

                           2. A two- (2) lb. Weight allowance will be granted as of
                           01-01-2000.

                           3. The state tournament will be held at Macon-East on
                           01-29-2000.

4. In addition to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, fourth place will receive points at the State Tournament.

Seed Criteria:

1. A wrestler must qualify for their minimum established weight class by 01-15-2000 in order to qualify for the State Tournament.

2. A wrestler must wrestle at least three (3) times at the weight they will wrestle at the State Tournament to be seeded. They may move their record DOWN from a higher weight class.

3. Wrestlers must wrestle a minimum of three (3) times in any class to participate in the State Tournament.

4. Page 46 of the National Federation Rule Book will be used to seed wrestlers.

5. If those guidelines cannot be used the coaches will vote on seeding procedures.

6. A bracket adjustment will be allowed if scratches move the seeded wrestlers to final rounds. Bracket adjustments must follow the established seed criteria.

VOLLEYBALL

ATTENTION VOLLEYBALL COACHES:
Be sure to get your entry form into the state office, along with a roster, by 9:00 a.m. on October 24, 2001.  The roster that you send will be in our State Tournament Program.  See our Athletic Notes Page for the entry form.

STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT:
The State Volleyball Tournament will be held at Huntingdon College on October 27, 2001 beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Admission is $5.00 per person.  Brackets Enclosed.

ATTENTION VOLLEYBALL COACHES:
Both of the West teams hosting the region Volleyball Tournament will be responsible for (1) Faxing to the AISA office the schools who are advancing to the Final Four Tournament at Huntingdon College (2) Faxing the Rosters to the AISA office and (3) Records of these schools who are advancing to the State Tournament (In-class and Overall) must be sent in also.  See Enclosures.

VOLLEYBALL COACHES:
Read pages 33-38 in your Athletic Handbook.  The Financial Form that must be submitted to the AISA office by the Host schools is in the back of the Athletic Handbook.  Volleyball All-Star Information is enclosed.

ALL-STAR VOLLEYBALL GAME:
The All-Star game will be held at Lee-Scott Academy on November 3, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 per person.
