I.          Teacher Aides: Teacher aides are instructional staff members (full-time or part-time personnel) who do not meet the AISA criteria to serve as teachers.  An aide must work under the direct supervision of a certified and/or degreed AISA professional in the area of assignment.  (See pages 26 and 27, AISA Accreditation Manual, Revised 2001.)  Examples of appropriate assignments of teacher aides include the following: assisting in a certified/degreed teacher's classroom; working as a library clerk; working in the school's computer laboratory; or serving as a tutor for students who need remediation and/or special help.  Examples of assignments that are not acceptable for teacher aides include the following: serving as a classroom teacher; serving as a physical education teacher; or having responsibility for students in lieu of a certified and/or degree teacher.
