Head of School- Lee-Scott Academy, Auburn, AL

Job Description

Lee-Scott Academy is a college preparatory school enrolling more than 720 students in grades Pre K-12 and offering a quality education in an environment where students are protected, nurtured, and challenged with Christian principles that promote the development of the total person. The pursuit of excellence in academics is the hallmark of the Academy, complemented by opportunities to participate in programs that encourage student success.
Excellence across the full range of academic, artistic, and athletic offerings results in LSA claiming many honors each year in local, state, and national competitions.  Additionally, LSA graduates are welcomed at a broad range of colleges and universities and last year earned nearly $2 million in scholarship offerings.

Maintaining a vision for the future needs of our students, the Board of Trustees and administration recently completed a long term strategic plan with the assistance of Independent School Counsel (ISC). A master campus plan has been developed and implemented to guide planning for future expansion in order to ensure the continuation of a dynamic academic community for our students, parents, and faculty.  The strategic plan is evaluated annually and focuses on the following key areas: Enhancing the existing physical infrastructure, enhancing the capacity of the human resource function, ensuring that the complete curriculum is aligned with the college preparatory mission, and developing sustainable funding to ensure long-term fiscal health.

In 1981 two independent schools, Lee Academy of Auburn and Scott Preparatory School of Opelika, merged to become Lee-Scott Academy. The founders of the school held that hard work, pursuit of knowledge, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and prayer are qualities that define America's heritage and are essential to the well-rounded development of students. These qualities are fundamental to the school's philosophy of education.  A prospective Head of School should share these qualities.

A prospective Head of School should also have a strong background in curriculum development and academic excellence, a focus on national standardized testing scores, an emphasis on technology development and support, and a focus on excellence in athletics, the arts, and other extracurricular activities.

Lee-Scottís diverse student body includes young people from Auburn, Opelika, and surrounding communities as well as international students. The strong histories of Lee Academy, Scott Preparatory School and Lee-Scott Academy represent for many people what a quality independent school should be.  The Mission Statement and philosophy of LSA are vital to its future life and direction, but words alone do not ensure success. A successful Head of School will be measured by the actions and by the lives of our graduates in their service to God, their families, and their communities.

Job Requirements
Education, training, experience:

Master's degree or its equivalent, preferably with major emphasis in the humanities and education. Experience should include classroom teaching and school administration. Independent day school experience is desirable. Education and job history should reflect knowledge of the technical and practical phases of independent school operations. A minimum of 10 years experience in the profession is expected. Job experience shall reflect evidence of leadership, moral character and community relations ability.
